Seafari Girls

Melanie Hajjar is training future environmental stewards through play and exploration.

"The girls don't have to know why, they just have to know that they love being in the water."

- Melanie Hajjar, Seafari Girls founder

Tidal pools, salt marshes, and shallow sandbars make up the Seafari Girls' daily playground. Hajjar and her team of counselors watch over a flock of little ladies ages 6+ while they float, swim, paddle and squeal with excitement. Many of these net-bearing, bikini-clad mermaids spend the afternoon catching unassuming sea creatures and studying them closely. Hajjar largely lets the girls roam free, picking and choosing their own activities within reason. She does encourage the girls to handle wildlife with care and be sure to return everyone to their aquatic homes when it's time to pack up for the day. Judging by the sheer joy in the girl's faces, Hajjar's laid-back approach to the Seafari experience is a big success.
